Why not try our simple Quote & Book function to get a better idea?
No there is not. You can use our no obligation Quote & Book function to obtain a price for your specific requirements.
Yes and no. When sending your used Personal Effects into Australia or New Zealand a surcharge of $165 AUD is applicable.
This is made up of a Customs imposed surcharge and the manual processing costs associated with this requirement.
When sending used Personal Effects out of Australia or New Zealand there are no extra government surcharges.
This used Personal Effects surcharge is unique to Australia & New Zealand and is not applicable to any other country whether importing or exporting.
Duties and Taxes can become applicable in certain countries and Personal Porter will contact you in these cases for reimbursement of them to Personal Porter at cost.
Health & Safety regulations limit the dead weight of individual items of luggage to 32kg. It is therefore essential that individual pieces of luggage do not exceed this weight. Some leeway may be allowed, although you will be invoiced if any retrospective charges apply.
Absolutely not. There is a limit to the dead weight (32kgs) of individual items of luggage but you can send as many items as you like.
As you would expect, delivering internationally can be alot more involved than delivering domestically due to the involvement of Customs around the world.
In order to enhance security of the delivery process and to streamline the Customs Clearance process in the destination country, it is a requirement that you photocopy the photograph page of your passport and to complete the Personal Porter Packing List template with as much detail as possible. The photocopy and Packing List should also be handed to the Personal Porter Representative at Pick Up.
Please be aware that you should state the Nominal Second Hand Value of your luggage in the Contents Value box, as this figure will determine any Customs Clearance process including any Duty and Taxes applicable. This is not the full replacement value.
There may be other Country Specific Documentation Requirements that have to be considered at the time of booking.
Yes you can. Please enter the name of your Cruise Ship, Cabin Number and any additional information in the Special Instructions fields provided on the booking page.
Please also inform the Cruise Line and advise them of the delivery of your luggage by Personal Porter.
From the moment your luggage is picked-up, until the moment it's delivered to the destination, it's in the possession of experienced global logistics providers. The Personal Porter Representatives perform upto 20 progress checkpoints during the delivery of your luggage to ensure that your luggage is fully trackable. You can chose to be updated by SMS at 3 selected points by entering your mobile phone in the correct format shown.
In the extremely unlikely event that your luggage misses any of these checkpoints Personal Porter proactively performs corrective action to ensure that any issues are managed until successful delivery.
Personal Porter strongly recommends that you have adequate insurance. Your travel insurance policy should cover the cost of your luggage in the very unlikely event it is lost or damaged.
Personal Porter is developing a supplementary travel insurance product in the very near future. Please contact us at insurance@personalporter.com for more details.
We would advise that you read our Terms & Conditions for further
information on this important subject.
The booking process has been designed so that the essential documentation required is automatically generated for you. You simply follow the instructions on the Booking Confirmation Email.

There are also some other country specific documentation requirements depending on your destination and we strongly advise that you check this link.
Personal Porter will be sending your luggage to your destination as a commercial consignment. The "ticket" for these consignments are referred to as an Air Waybill (AWB). Unlike the luggage tags that the airports attach to your luggage, Air Waybills contain all the information required for a safe and reliable door-to-door delivery as well as assigning a unique reference number.
This AWB number can be used to Track Your Luggage.
A copy of the Air Waybill should be placed inside each piece of your luggage and two (2) copies handed to the Personal Porter Representative on Pick Up.
These are the documents that are required for the luggage to clear International Customs Clearance processes around the world. These detail the contents of your luggage to which you assign a nominal declared value to the contents. Duties and Taxes are calculated on this amount so please be aware of the implications of stating a high value.
This is not the insurance value of the goods. Please see section on Insurance above.
A copy of the Commercial Invoice and Personal Porter Packing List should be placed inside each piece of your luggage and two (2) copies given to the Personal Porter Representative on Pick-Up.
Yes we do. We have preselected the most common amounts purchased since our launch and they can be purchased online. Our suggestion would be that you get a quote for the typical journey the recipient of the gift card would travel and purchase to whatever value you think they require.
For those who have corporate travel budgets, our Personal Porter Gift Cards are a useful way of paying for a number of trips at the beginning of the year, allowing you to use the Personal Porter service whenever you require.
2. Booking
It's a very simple online process. After receiving your Quote you are ready to proceed with the booking:
-
Enter your pickup address and delivery address details.
-
Confirm the luggage type & luggage contents of what you would like delivered.
-
Create an Account by selecting a password.
-
Confirm the booking details.
-
Pay securely through our secure HSBC Payment Gateway
-
Finalise the booking and print off the required documentation
No you don't. When requesting a quote you simply select the luggage type that best represents your actual luggage. The Quote and Book process has been designed with some assumptions of dimensions of your luggage versus its anticipated stated weight.
Although the actual weight is important, it can be the actual dimensions of your luggage that will determine how much you are charged as our charges are based on the larger of dead weight v. the volumetric weight of your luggage.
VISA, MasterCard, AMEX, VISA Delta, Electron and Maestro are all acceptable forms of payment. These payments can be made during the booking process through our HSBC Secure ePayments Payment Gateway.
Yes we can. However all chairs must be folding types and in a protective cover (not supplied). In addition we can carry certain types of collapsible hoist, which must again be in protective carrying holders (not supplied). Please contact us through the specialrequests@personalporter.com for rates on these items. Please note that the maximum weight of any one piece may not exceed 32kgs. Any piece exceeding this weight limit may be refused carriage.
This depends on where you are traveling to. During the Quote and Book process you will be asked when you would like your luggage delivered. The quote you receive will then detail the required pickup date.
An allowance is included for Customs clearance, but Personal Porter cannot accept any responsibility for delays that occur due to the clearance of your luggage through Customs.
Yes you do. By registering with us :
-
you can amend your pick up dates if your travel itinerary changes
-
we can advise of the delivery progress of your luggage
-
you can take advantage of any future offers.
During Step 1 of the booking process, you enter the delivery address details.
IMPORTANT NOTE: These need to be accurate and as comprehensive as possible. In the special instructions, if you indicate that you are a guest and detail your hotel booking reference number (if you have been supplied with one), this will help the hotel locate you in their own booking records.
Yes. When you confirm your reservation, advise the concierge or reception staff that your luggage will be delivered using the Personal Porter service and this will give them the necessary authority to sign for them on their delivery.
The AWB and Commercial Invoice are automatically generated between 1- 5 days before the pick up date.
We require you to fill out the Personal Porter Packing List that we provide with your Booking Confirmation Email and hand this to the Personal Porter Representative.
In order to enhance security of the delivery process and to streamline the Customs Clearance process in the destination country, we also require you to photocopy your passport and hand to the Personal Porter Representative.
The documentation needs to be attached securely to your luggage. When pick-up is made, our Representative will carry document holders that can be affixed to your luggage.
A copy of the Air Waybill, Commercial Invoice and your Contact Details should also be placed inside your luggage.
Bookings can be cancelled up to 96 hours prior to the scheduled time of pickup. If a shipment is cancelled within 96 hours a fee of AU$50 per piece will be charged. This fee covers the administration costs for the manual intervention. Cancellations cannot be made within 48 hours of a scheduled pickup. Every effort will be made to limit the cancellation fee but it should also be acknowledged that on occasion the full cost of the service may be charged for cancellations.
In the event that you need to change the pick-up date, simply sign-in to the website, select which booking requires amending and change the detail accordingly. It is possible to amend these details up to 5 days prior to pick-up.
You can book our service as far in advance as you want. We recommend that you book the Personal Porter service no more than 48hours before the pick-up date.
Sending your luggage may still be possible its just that we are unable to automate it or the destination country may have special requirements that we need to discuss with you. Please contact us on bookings@personalporter.com
3. Packing
No we don't. The responsibility for packing your luggage remains with you. It is also your responsibility to ensure that your luggage is robust and in good condition to protect the contents during the delivery process.
You may send used Personal Effects only. This is used clothing, footwear, personal hygiene products (excl. those items prohibited from Carriage in FAQ 3.3 below), make-up and sporting equipment such as skis, snowboards, golf clubs, scuba equipment and wheelchairs. We can also accept books and documents of a non-commercial or educational nature, however there are some restrictions on these items in certain countries.
Businesses may also wish to send trade show or conference material.
For further information please refer to our Terms & Conditions on
this subject.
Do NOT pack jewellery, expensive electronic equipment or anything of significant value. In the same way as you would have done in the past. Please also remember that perfume and aerosol cans are flammable and therefore considered a dangerous substance and MUST not be packed.
Although Personal Porter will do all that we can to expedite the delivery process we will NOT be held responsible for delays due to the packing of high value or Prohibited Goods.
Yes. A list of prohibited items is
supplied for your information although you should check with the appropriate authorities for a definitive list.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are bringing items into Australia or New Zealand, for example, there are strict rules on what can and cannot be imported. We cannot stress enough that you read the Customs Service website and the Quarantine and Inspection Service website of the respective countries, which detail exactly what you are allowed to bring into that country as a Personal Effect.
If you require any further clarification on this, please contact them directly. We would advise that you read our Terms & Conditions for further information on this important subject.
Please be aware, that if your luggage is delayed because of carrying prohibited goods, Personal Porter will not be liable for loss, delay or damage under any circumstance.
Nothing. Simply have your items ready to go. Luggage and sporting equipment should be packed appropriately and ensure that the necessary documentation is ready for the Pick Up. Other than that, you're ready to go.
You do not have to do anything beyond what you would do if you were checking in the items at the airport.
Special requirements are
-
bikes, which need to be in an appropriate bike container or boxed,
-
Golf bags must be in an airline compatible case or cover,
-
Skis, boots and bindings must be in an appropriate ski container.
There are many types of suitable travel cases available that will prevent damage to your equipment during transportation. If you travel abroad regularly with your equipment, our advice would be to invest in such a travel case. Many customers use a padded nylon ski bag, snowboard bag, or golf bag travel cover for delivery but in reality the sturdier the case, the better protection it will offer to your equipment.
If you would like to have a bike delivered, for example, you'll need to purchase a travel case unless you own a hard-sided bike case specifically designed for bike transport.
Travel cases are not needed for luggage and duffel bags. Personal Porter assumes that each customer has their own durable travel case suitable for the pick-up and delivery of their items.
Personal Porter recommends using towels or other non-essential items to pad skis or other equipment. Do not use ski jackets or other clothing for this purpose. Be careful not to overstuff bags on soft-sided cases.
Luggage should remain unlocked. Customs Officials may require access in order to perform inspections. If your luggage is locked, they will gain access by whatever means necessary.
The network that your luggage is being transported through is secure, reliable and can be trusted.
At this time, Personal Porter is unable to transport your pets or any live animals.
4. Pick-up

You can nominate a Preferred Pick Up time during the Booking Process.
Personal Porter and our Representatives will endeavour to meet the Preferred Pick Up times requested during the booking process. Please be aware that these are "preferred" pick up times and not "guaranteed" pick up times.
At present, we cannot pick-up or deliver on weekends or Public Holidays.
No it cannot. In all cases, there must be someone available to sign to authorise the pick-up of your luggage. This does not have to be yourself, but whoever it is, they must have their own acceptable form of ID available.
Personal Porter cannot be held liable for any delays that occur with the delivery due to the unavailability of a signatory.
Yes, they can. For example, if you want your golf clubs picked-up from your club, you could ask your golf club Professional to be your authorised representative. This representative needs to be able to show their own acceptable form of ID
before pick-up can be made.
Personal Porter cannot be held liable for any delays that occur with the delivery due to the unavailability of a signatory.
Yes you can. If you want your luggage picked-up from your office, be sure to advise security that a pick-up is to be made, so that unnecessary delays are avoided.
If the luggage is to be picked-up from you, please ensure that you have an acceptable form of ID ready, or if the pick-up of your luggage is to be made from a colleague, secretary or EA/PA, please ensure that they have their own acceptable form of ID ready.
Personal Porter cannot be held liable for any delays that occur with the delivery due to the unavailability of a signatory.
Your luggage must be ready from the preferred time you select at the Booking Process. It is not possible for our Representatives to wait while you finish your last minute packing.
We are aware that when preparing for overseas trips, packing can be one of those last minute jobs that is occasionally accompanied with panic and a certain amount of confusion. What do I wear, what might I wear, so there is a minor change to how you need to prepare.
We can assure you that once you have packed and we have picked-up your luggage, you will experience a huge moment of relief. Over the next few days and prior to leaving, you will also experience a relative air of calm knowing that your luggage is safely and securely on its way.
Yes you can. This will require you to enter these as separate bookings.
5. Delivery
Internationally, Personal Porter can pick up and deliver to over 200 countries & territories worldwide. Our major hubs are in and out of the UK and Australia.
Domestically, Personal Porter picks up and delivers within the UK and Australia.
As you would expect, delivering internationally can be alot more involved than delivering domestically due to the involvement of Customs around the world
In order to enhance security of the delivery process and to streamline the Customs Clearance process in the destination country, it is a requirement that you photocopy the photograph page of your passport and to complete the Personal Porter Packing List template with as much detail as possible. The photocopy and Packing List should also be handed to the Personal Porter Representative at Pick Up
There may be other Country Specific Documentation Requirements that have to be considered at the time of booking.
Absolutely, this is one of the benefits of the Personal Porter service and we would highly recommend this. You will be advised by SMS when your luggage has been safely delivered to your delivery address. When booking your hotel, please advise them that you will be using Personal Porter to deliver your luggage and they will then be aware that your luggage will be arriving a day or two before you.
Yes. Sending your luggage through Personal Porter ensures that every single consignment is processed through a stringent security screening process that includes X-Ray. Please be aware that camera film and other items may be harmed during this process. Insurance is therefore limited for damage against these items.
During the booking process, you can select whether you require SMS Updates on the delivery status of your luggage. This included service will advise you when your luggage :
-
has been cleared for departure from the country of origin.

You can use our no obligation Quote and Book facility to obtain a price and delivery time for your specific requirements.
From the moment your luggage is picked-up, until the moment it's delivered, it's in the possession of our partners in the worlds foremost logistics companies. There are up to 20 progress checkpoints during the delivery of your luggage to ensure that your luggage is fully trackable.
In the extremely unlikely event that your luggage misses any of these checkpoints, corrective action is performed to ensure that any issues are managed as quickly as possible and we will advise accordingly.
In the extremely unlikely event that your luggage is delayed, lost or damaged you should advise us within 14 days from the date that the items were delivered by us to be able to process your claim. We will undertake our own investigations before authorising the claim, so please supply as much information as possible. If the claim is for damage, we require photos of the damaged luggage/contents to be sent to us. For lost contents, proof of ownership will be required.
It is also important to make a note of any damage on the delivery note you sign.
We would advise that you read our Terms & Conditions for further
information on this important subject.
Delivery of your items will require a signature, although unlike pick-up, an acceptable form of ID is NOT required. If no one is available at the destination to sign for the delivery, the courier will leave an attempted
delivery notice. Follow the instructions on this card so that re-delivery can be made.
